Discipleship experiences at the airport

Discipleship group discussion with all the Lentera airport workers about 'Christian Discipline'. How do we go from susu (milk) to ubi (sweet potato) food? Hebrews 5:14 says: 'But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have TRAINED themselves to distinguish good from evil'. In 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Paul is also talking about 'strict training to win a price that lasts forever'. It's hard for Papuans to answer something in a group, afraid to give a 'wrong answer'. I tried to teach them some of the 'Western guts' to say something in a big group. Big cultural differences. That's why it's really interesting to work cross-cultural: we both learn from each others culture. In smaller groups they came with practical applications of 'christian discipline': Being on time, fasting, self control, etc. Next week we will start with small discipleship groups. We need to (1) open our hearts in transparent trust to each other (2) around the thrush of God's Word (3) in the spirit of mutual accountability. Then we are in the 'Holy Spirits hothouse of transformation' (according to Greg Ogden). Every week we will talk and pray around one theme. Next week: 'Sex'. Men talk. For men who used to live in save and close kampung (village) communities it's hard to deal with all the temptations in the city Wamena. I'm looking forward to what the Lord is going to do through truthful sharing and practical suggestions about the weakness of men. Btw: They don't have any airport noise regulations here.. so today we were lucky only one -old- Boeing 737 en the Hercules departed during the devotion time.
